WordPress or Next.js: What the Data Reveals for Your Business

WordPress or Next.js: The Right Choice for Your Company's Website

Faced with the need for a robust digital presence, choosing the platform for your company's website is a crucial strategic decision. Frequently, the dominant narrative points to WordPress as the universal solution. However, when we delve into field data – the real metrics of how websites perform on the internet – a more nuanced picture emerges. This article uses data from the Chrome UX Report (CrUX) and Patchstack to analyze the performance of WordPress and Next.js, showing when each shines and when a migration might not be a panacea.

The goal is not to declare a winner, but to provide an evidence-based analysis so that SME owners, marketing managers, and front-end developers can make informed decisions about the technology that will drive their online businesses.

Key Points:

  • Real performance of WordPress and Next.js sites measured by Core Web Vitals.
  • Security vulnerabilities in the WordPress ecosystem.
  • The role of TTFB (Time to First Byte) in WordPress performance.
  • Practical implications for platform choice.
  • When optimizing the current stack is more effective than migrating.

Web Performance: A Field Data-Based Analysis

A website's performance is measured by crucial indicators, such as Core Web Vitals (CWV), a set of Google metrics that assess user experience in terms of loading, interactivity, and visual stability. The Core Web Vitals Technology Report from HTTP Archive, cross-referencing field data from the Chrome UX Report (CrUX), presented an interesting panorama in April 2026.

Platforms like Duda (85%), Wix (80%), and Shopify (79%) showed considerably higher overall approval rates across the three CWVs. Astro appeared with 67%, Drupal with 64%, Joomla with 58%, and WordPress with around 49%. These numbers, while approximate, indicate a significant difference in performance.
